AHASFV President's Message — June, 2013

I hope this message finds all those reading it enjoying the beautiful Southern California spring. Many members of our club had the pleasure of spending a long weekend in Santa Barbara at our 50th Anniversary Mother's Day show and Pacific Slope Championship show. I want to give a HUGE thank you to Jeff Reichman for once again managing a great show. Even though the number of exhibitors was less than expected, those in attendance, without exception, commented on how well the show was run and how much fun they were having. Many people also commented on the beauty of the trophies given out. Thank you Teri Gonzalez-Reichman for your design and procurement of the lovely trophies.

Many of our clubs' youth were at the show serving ice cream to raise money for the Region 2 youth program. My last count indicated that their fund raising efforts brought in over $300 dollars! Many of the kids in attendance are members of the Regional Judging Team. Coaches Kandice Watts and Nedra Johnson spent all of Saturday drilling, testing and coaching the team members.

My hope for next year is that more Arabian Horse owners, local breeders and potential exhibitors support this show in greater numbers. Pacific Slope is a Regional Championship Show. We are going to lose this show if we do not participate and support it. Within one hour of Santa Barbara some of the best Arabians in the country are raised and trained. I want to urge everyone to consider making the Pacific Slope Show what it was not too long ago… a prestigious, well attended Regional Championship Show.

On another note, I took time while in Santa Barbara to go trail riding in the foothills of the San Marcos pass. There are several boarding facilities in the area for overnight boarding. I brought my trail horse and rode each day when I was not at the show. For other trail enthusiasts I highly recommend the area.

The next club trail ride is tentatively scheduled for July 21 in the Santa Rosa Valley. Details will be available next month.

Our next meeting will be June 11th at Marie Callenders in North Hills. It is an open meeting for anyone that wants to come and meet the AHASFV Board.
